These are two out of my three bowls I made for my theme projects. I decided my theme for my projects would be reflective. Reflective in the sense that I am reflecting back on my projects and learning from what I made freshman year and first semester of this year. Over the semesters that I have taken ceramics, bowls have been my specialty and have always turned out the best for me. These bowls were thrown on the wheel which I also glazed with turquoise and some green. They express color and form. They also give off a cool feeling.

This is my set of three project which I did by throwing on the wheel. I decided I would do some sort of smaller scale project so I decided to throw three cups. I glazed them each with scrap blue and the light blue. They express pattern as well as color and contrast. They also give off a cool feeling.
These are my two plates which I threw on the wheel. I stained them with cobalt blue and then after they were bisqued, a light pink. They express value, color, as well as pattern. They give off a happy and spring feeling.
This is my extra credit chip dip bowl that I made by throwing on the wheel. This project required opening twice as you can see with the plate portion and bowl portion. I stained cobalt wash flowers on the plate part as well as some pink, green, and a little purple and yellow. After it was fired I glazed white throughout the entire platter. The art elements expressed are color and the design elements expressed are pattern and emphasis on the flowers. This project gives off a spring-like feel. This is my extra credit bowl in which I threw on the wheel, as well as throwing extra large to get the form of my bowl. I decided that with the large surface of the bowl I would create designs and patterns. I first used the cobalt blue stain to make the outline of the flowers before it was put in the bisque. After that I glazed pink, yellow, green, and red within the flowers to create a happy feeling. The art elements expressed in my bowl are color and value. My design elements are emphasis and pattern. This is my hand and wheel project in which I did by throwing on the wheel. I had made a cylinder which got off center so I formed it to create a wheel alter look spout. As well as that, I added a handle to make it a pitcher. I glazed it forest green and painted some white on top as well. The art elements expressed are color and form and the design elements expressed are emphasis on the dark green color throughout. Overall, this pitcher gives off a calm feeling. This is my groups Franken pot. It was thrown on the wheel by me, Bayley Barnett, and Bailey Root. I threw the bottom part and since Bailey root was absent the ther days, Bailey Barnett threw the other two pieces and both Bayley and Bailey assembled the three pieces together. We glazed it teel and white however it ran in some places which gives it a unique look. The main art element is color and form and the design elements are unity. This is my wheel altered project in which I did by throwing on the wheel. I glazed it yellow, black, and turquoise. It gives off a unique feel and represents the water and sun from the contrast of turquoise and yellow glazes. A new skill I learned was creating different deformities in the clay to create my wheel altered. The art elements expressed are color and form and the design elements expressed are contrast and emphasis. This is my lidded project which I did by throwing on the wheel. I first threw the jar and then the lid. I glazed them yellow with the dark accent of black for the letters, bee, and honey combs. A new skill I learned making this project was carving out shapes and words simply just free handed. The art elements expressed In this project are color and texture. The design elements expressed are emphasis and contrast. Overall this project gives off a happy feeling. This is my choice project in which I did by throwing on the wheel. For this project I decided to experiment with carving out and creating negative space, I did this with a carver tool. I did a mix of glazes for this bowl which consisted of the teal and mat turquoise along with clear on top so it would remain smooth and shiny. The art element expressed in my bowl is color and texture and the design element expressed is pattern and movement. This bowl gives off a unique and spunky feel. |
